The course mainly provides pedagogical content knowledge which discusses several important topics to prepare students to become professional English teachers in secondary levels (SMP and SMA). It covers the notion of different terminologies in teaching and learning English, criteria for a good English teacher and teacher’s competencies; the notion of approaches, methods, and techniques; the theories underlying the development of methods; the notions of innovative strategies in teaching the four language skills and language components integratedly. The students are required not only to understand the theoretical concepts underpinning the methods and strategies of teaching, but also to practice applying certain teachniques or strategies. The assessments are process and product which are taken during and at the end of learning in the form of formative (weekly assignment, participation, and attitude during the classroom session), sub-summative (mid-term test), and summative (final project).
