This course introduces various types of qualitative research.

This course aims to help students have competence in conducting quantitative research with the help of statistics in the fields of English Language Education, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, and ESP which includes basic theoretical concepts regarding scientific approaches and problem solving in the fields of English Language Education, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, and ESP, using quantitative and statistical research methods, problem formulation and hypotheses in the context of quantitative research, the concept of constructs and variables in the context of quantitative research, the concept of randomization and sampling techniques in the context of quantitative research, types and designs of quantitative research, data collection procedures in quantitative research context, principles of analysis and interpretation of data and findings in the context of quantitative research, basic concepts of statistics, concepts of quantitative data and scales, descriptive statistical techniques (central tendency and dispersion), inferential statistical techniques (hypothesis testing, multiple comparison, correlation, and regression), and the concept of writing quantitative research proposals. In lectures, students read critically various sources related to quantitative research, have collaborative discussions in small and large groups to discuss types of research, research designs, data analysis methods, and statistical techniques, find examples of relevant research, and apply types of research, design research, data analysis methods, and appropriate statistical techniques in writing research proposals. The assessments used are process and product assessments, namely in the form of weekly assignments (tasks), and the final product is a quantitative research proposal.
