This course aims to compare, discuss, analyse and evaluate the policies and practices of education systems across countries. The Ph.D. students are involved in inquiry and case based learning and work on group and individual projects that meet their field of study or work area or interest. On the weekly bases, students are required to do critical reading, library research, collaborative work, and class presentation, so that they learn from one another and expand their competence in doing comparative education research.

Seminar on critical issues in education help students to learn how to find critical issues in education and how to carry out seminar on critical issue in education. The objectives of the course are writing a paper/article, being a speaker on seminar, and conduct a seminar with group. Before writing an article, the students will choose a topic as their prospective article. The paper will be presented on seminar that will be conducted by the students. The students should manage the seminar from designing the flyer, determining the moderator, etc. Students will be assessed by performance assessment. The products are an article, performance as a speaker in the seminar and the quality of the seminar conducted.

This course aims to develop student competencies in planning and carrying out quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research in the fields of Educational Sciences. Topics/study materials include research designs, data collection procedures, principles of analysis and interpretation of data and findings, concepts of inferential statistics (hypothesis testing, multiple comparison, correlation, and regression) advanced level, data analysis techniques with programs, and the concept of writing quantitative and qualitative research proposals assisted by statistics. The teaching and learning process is carried out interactively, holistically, scientifically, thematically, effectively, and collaboratively on students, which involves a critical review of theoretical and empirical studies related to previous studies that are relevant to the topics raised in the proposal in the field of education. As a subject in the field of interdisciplinary studies, students are required to engage in many discussions and reviews utilizing knowledge from various perspectives and related academic disciplines. Through project-based learning, students are required to make a proposal and send it to the learning management system at the end of the semester. The final score is assessed based on a process-based assessment and the results of the final project in the form of a research proposal.

Through readings, discussions, hands-on activities, and critical project-based writings, students will develop a critical understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by digital technologies in education, and will learn how to apply critical digital pedagogy principles in their own teaching and learning situations.
